The Wholehearted Parenting Manifesto by Brene Brown
Above all else, I want you to know that you are loved and lovable. You will learn this from my words and actions–the lessons on love are in how I treat you and how I treat myself. I want you to engage with the world from a place of worthiness. You will learn that you are worthy of love, belonging, and joy every time you see me practice self-compassion and embrace my own imperfections. We will practice courage in our family by showing up, letting ourselves be seen, and honoring vulnerability. We will share our stories of struggle and strength. There will always be room in our home for both. We will teach you compassion by practicing compassion with ourselves first; then with each other. We will set and respect boundaries; we will honor hard work, hope, and perseverance. Rest and play will be family values, as well as family practices. You will learn accountability and respect by watching me make mistakes and make amends, and by watching how I ask for what I need and talk about how I feel. I want you to know joy, so together we will practice gratitude. I want you to feel joy, so together we will learn how to be vulnerable. When uncertainty and scarcity visit, you will be able to draw from the spirit that is a part of our everyday life. Together we will cry and face fear and grief. I will want to take away your pain, but instead I will sit with you and teach you how to feel it. We will laugh and sing and dance and create. We will always have permission to be ourselves with each other. No matter what, you will always belong here. As you begin your Wholehearted journey, the greatest gift that I can give to you is to live and love with my whole heart and to dare greatly. I will not teach or love or show you anything perfectly, but I will let you see me, and I will always hold sacred the gift of seeing you. Truly, deeply, seeing you.

Being a Lightworker is a sacred journey. A Lightworker works in integrity, has mastered his or her craft and loves to share this with the world. An honest, integral Lightworker will never take away your power, make you feel small, or see you as dollar signs when you walk in the door. Recently, I experienced a Lightworker who was not working in integrity. I had trusted this person, had shared details about my life with this person and in the end felt ripped off. My frustration grew as I wondered how she slipped by my radar. In recent weeks, I’ve also heard from other friends who have had less-than-life-enhancing experiences so I decided to write about it with the intention of creating more awareness that these people are out there and how to avoid them altogether. How to tell if someone is integral, well-trained and working from the Light: You get a good feeling when you talk with them; they really know their stuff and openly share. Your vibes resonate with theirs. (There are no red flags from your intuition) They have credentials, training and a thriving practice. They answer any questions you have with ease. They make the session 100% about you. (Integrity at its best) You don’t feel pushed to book a session with them. And, if they cannot help you they will direct you to who can. Now the other side… Lightworkers who are not in integrity sound or behave like this: “I’m a higher level being than you are and I’m 100% accurate.” “If you open your heart to me and tell me you really love me our session will be amazing.” “Align your energies, cells and guides with mine.” (Run, I mean run if you ever hear this) “I have some amazing information for you but you’ll need to book a session with me so I can tell you more.” They use bizarre phrases or chants. (And I’m not referring to Om Mani Padme Hum) Will often attempt to correct your thought processes to help you see the “better way”. They put down other Lightworkers and see them as out of integrity. (Laughing as I type this) No credentials and they claim to read a lot and have no need for training or classes. They physically touch you inappropriately. There is NO energetic healing modality (reiki, bodytalk, craniosacral) that would require the client to be completely naked or touched inappropriately for healing to occur. And, the best one I’ve heard lately… “I’m getting you have information for me”. – During a session I paid for! It happened to me. I went to see a woman who I heard other people rave about. She was engaging, charming and very friendly. After the first time I met her I remember driving home wondering if she was legitimate. Something just felt off and the next few times I saw this woman, socially or otherwise, I was given more insight into who she really was. My girlfriend and I decided to take a class this woman was offering and then it got really interesting. Half way through the class, my friend asked the woman if she had trained with this particular organization in another city and this woman quickly replied “Yes”, with a big smile on her face. My girlfriend looked at me with a concerned look and got really quiet. Turns out the organization this woman trained with was a known cult and completely lacking integrity and causing great harm to unsuspecting participants. My friend and I were sure to unravel our energy from this woman and have never heard from her since – thank you Universe. Tips to Stand in Your Power Trust your gut – even in a group setting – it only takes one voice to make a change. Speak up for your beliefs – especially when they are minimized or challenged. Disconnect from those who want you be something you’re not. If you feel uncomfortable during a session get up and leave. Ask your own inner guidance these 3 questions before booking with any practitioner: Is this the right practitioner for me? Is this the right time for me to have this session or treatment? Is this the right modality or treatment for me? Find your voice and speak up especially when it's uncomfortable. When you stand in your power, and are true to yourself, you will inspire others to do the same. Until you stand in your power, you will continue to have these experiences. When you stand up for yourself, the Universe will align you with integral, honest Lighworkers who work from their heart. Always stand in your power. |
